The Government is at present engaged in

negotiations with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking

Corporation for the sale to the Bank of the portion

required for the Bank's rebuilding scheme and until

these negotiations have been concluded no progress can

be made. The scheme is to be self-supporting and

the funds for proceeding with the scheme are to be

furnished by the sale of the City Hall property.

the financing of the loan works or the repayment of the

existing six per cent Public Works Loan pending a

settlement of the question as to whether Military

Contribution is to be paid on the interest and sinking

fund of the new loan. In this connection I invite

last.
